April Update

12 April 2017

Further preparatory works are scheduled to commence on Tuesday 18 April 2017 behind the temporary fencing in the System Garden.

These works are a step towards creating a world-class precinct for biosciences teaching, research, and training at the University of Melbourne and will involve some tree relocations and removals.

Tree removals will take place from 18 to 19 April 2017 and tree relocations from 5 to 10 May 2017. No trees on the City of Melbourne exceptional tree register are being removed.

Valuable trees, shrubs and ground covers affected have been identified by the Grounds Supervisor and System Garden Curator, and will be either replanted immediately within the System Garden or boxed and stored for replanting in the new System Garden subclass garden beds at the completion of the project.

The specialist contractor has extensive experience performing tree removal activities and will manage pedestrian access throughout the works as necessary.

Additionally, all appropriate approvals and requirements have been confirmed by the contractor and the University project team managing the WEBS program.

Surrounding buildings may be impacted by noise and access issues, though every effort will be made to minimise disruption to surrounding buildings and residents.
